[E007a] Michel Gaubert Blue Monday Mix

January 18th: Blue Monday 2021 - press release

On what is widely known as Blue Monday, the supposed scientifically proven most depressing day of the year, the collective known as EBiT™ releases a debut trilogy of music mixes curated by iconic sound designer, Michel Gaubert. The inaugural mix, with a dopamine releasing euphoric vibe, aims to be a source of relief and inspiration for a society feeling the mental fatigue of 2020 and optimistic about 2021.

The project also stands respectfully as a homage to New Order’s Blue Monday, still the best selling 12” vinyl single of all time.

"Music is one of the strongest emotional supports that is readily available. It is also the main reason why I dedicated my life to it and now, more than ever, sharing it is an act of solidarity. Escapism is also essential, and we all need our windows to breathe and let our feelings go. This is why I am honored to curate this series of mixes for EBIT™. We are all in transition somewhere and we have to join forces to help one another. Mental health affects us all and is too often overlooked. May the music make us come together and bring us peace and above all harmony."

Michel Gaubert

Supporting these releases John Digweed, the legendary British DJ, will introduce a preview of Michel Gaubert’s EBiT™ Blue Monday mix via his world-renowned TRANSITIONS radio channels during the weekend of 16th/17th January. The full two-hour mix will be streamed exclusively on Blue Monday 18th January on Digweed’s Mixcloud, and will be aired with John’s introductory mix at:

10.00 GMT, 15.00 GMT and 21.00 GMT

(05.00 EST, 10.00 EST, 16.00 EST).

"For many years people have been educated on the importance of physical fitness and the benefits of eating a healthy diet for our well-being.  The awareness of mental health has thankfully increased in recent years, providing much needed help for people struggling internally.  Our minds are one of the most powerful parts of our human bodies, controlling our daily thoughts, which can in turn have a huge effect on the physical body.  2020 has been an extraordinary year and the coming months are still going to be incredibly difficult for millions of people around the world.  So many industries face uncertainty on when we can get back to any sort of normality.  I hope these special curated mixes can help raise awareness and also encourage people not only to ask for help, but the importance of reaching out to friends and family to check how they are on regular basis."

EBIT™ visual identity and the artwork accompanying the mixes has been created by art and design duo M/M (Paris), one of the most distinctive and acclaimed creative voices of today.

"What we’ve learned from this year is that everything is in flux, nothing is a given anymore. That’s why we find there is something reassuring in geometry, in the sense that it allows to compose, combine, play and explore shapes, while making sure we do so in a logical framework, to structure an ever-evolving visual language. Define your own parameters to enjoy being in transition."

M/M (Paris)

EBIT™: Enjoy Being in Transition™ is said to be a collective of artists who have emerged to progress the conversation on mental health in fashion, music and all aspects of art, challenging our society status quo, and asking the question: what happens when we put purpose over profit?

Informed by the emotional upheaval of 2020, EBIT™’s cultural activations are set to emerge both offline and online from January 2021, with the inaugural mix by Michel Gaubert set to appear at Berlin’s Reference Festival in a “Blue Room” via virtual platform Reference Realities on January 21st and 22nd.

Created as an explicit homage to the legacy of Factory Records each artistic aspect of EBIT™ is catalogued with an “E: Enjoy” number. The trilogy of mixes [E007] by Gaubert compounds on from the initial logo artwork by M/M (Paris) [E001] as well as an offline project with famed photographer Glen Luchford, dubbed ‘Glen’s Nostalgic Momento’ [E002], which treasures a series of previously unpublished photographs taken by Luchford during a Radiohead concert in 1992.

EBIT™ activations and products, both virtual and physical, are accessed exclusively via local dealers.
